In Kharkiv, a woman was sentenced for throwing her own baby into a bag.

A woman has been sentenced in Kharkiv for the murder of her own child.

This was reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, as conveyed by "Dumka".

According to the investigation, at the end of November 2022, the woman gave birth to a daughter in her apartment without any medical assistance.

She immediately placed the baby in a plastic bag and tied it shut, restricting the child's access to air. The baby died.

During the court hearing, the woman did not admit her guilt. She explained that she indeed gave birth at home, cut the umbilical cord with scissors, placed the infant in a bag, and then went to rest in another room while waiting for her partner.

According to the conclusion of a forensic psychiatrist, the defendant was aware of her actions and was capable of controlling them.

For the prosecution's support, the Slobidsky District Prosecutor's Office of Kharkiv found the 38-year-old woman guilty of intentional murder of her newborn child (Article 117 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

She was sentenced to three years in prison.
