Today, October 16, various events are taking place around the world to celebrate World Food Day. This event commemorates the establishment of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on October 16, 1945, according to UNN.

According to UN statistics, approximately 700 million people worldwide experience hunger daily, and two billion suffer from malnutrition.

Nearly 650 million hungry individuals reside in African and Asian countries.

Due to irregular and inadequate nutrition, over 140 million children under five years old experience developmental delays.

Small farmers produce about one-third of the world's food. Approximately 600 million people rely on aquatic food systems for their livelihoods.

Another event today is World Bread Day.

Researchers believe that around 30 different types of bread were baked in various regions of the world during the 3rd millennium BC.

Before the invention of plates, food was served on pieces of bread. For a long time, white bread was considered a delicacy, accessible only to the wealthy, while the poor consumed black and gray bread.

Additionally, today marks World Healthy Eating Day.

According to the World Health Organization, 80% of all diseases are linked to food in some way, with 40% directly related to an individual's diet.

Today, anesthesiologists celebrate their professional holiday.

As early as the 1st century BC, the ancient Greek physician Dioscorides was interested in pain relief. He discovered that a drug derived from the poisonous mandrake plant had calming and sedative properties, reducing pain sensitivity and aiding in successful surgeries for injured soldiers, thereby increasing their chances of recovery. He is credited with the first use of the term "anesthesia."

The tattoo for today was chosen in honor of Thomas Morton, a surgeon and dentist who, on October 16, 1846, used inhalation of diethyl ether to create general anesthesia during the removal of a submandibular tumor in Boston.

Events are also taking place in many countries today for World Allergy Awareness Day and World Restart a Heart Day.

According to WHO, the number of patients has increased eightfold on our planet.

The goal of World Restart a Heart Day is to raise awareness about the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and to increase the number of instances where bystanders provide it.

Statistics show that less than 20% of ordinary citizens attempt to provide first aid to someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest.

Animal lovers today also celebrate National Feral Cat Day.

The purpose of this event is to remind people of their love for animals and to encourage responsible and humane treatment of cats and their care. We must all remember that every homeless cat needs help, attention, and care.

In many countries today, employees can congratulate their leaders on "Professional" Day - Boss's Day.

It is believed that the holiday was initiated in 1958 by American Patricia Haroski, who worked as a secretary at her father's insurance company and decided to creatively organize a celebration for his birthday.

Boss's Day gradually gained popularity in the United States and many other countries.

Statistics indicate that 65% of employees would like to become managers. 43% of people believe that their superiors appreciate their work, which inspires them to perform better.

According to the church calendar, today is the Feast Day of Saint Longinus.

Longinus was a Roman legionnaire and one of the guards at the site of Jesus Christ's crucifixion.

According to legend, the blood of Jesus fell into the soldier's eyes, curing him of cataracts. It was after this that Longinus came to believe in the Lord. He decided to become a preacher, and other soldiers who witnessed the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ joined him.

This angered Pontius Pilate, who ordered them all to be captured and beheaded.

On October 16, the name day is celebrated by Longinus, Leontius, and Viola.
