The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), currently under the control of Russian occupiers, has lost connection to its only reserve power line with a voltage of 330 kilovolts (kV) for the second time this month. The disconnection lasted for over 24 hours. This information comes from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reports UNN.
Details
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated that after the loss of power supply, the nuclear plant became reliant on the sole external power source needed for cooling the reactors and ensuring other critical nuclear safety functions.
According to IAEA representatives present at the ZNPP, which is occupied by Russian forces, the power line was disconnected for more than 26 hours (from Monday to Tuesday) due to "unidentified damage on the other side of the Dnipro River."
The IAEA also reminds that before the onset of the Russian invasion, the Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, operated 4 lines with a voltage of 750 kV and 6 lines with a voltage of 330 kV.
He emphasized that the situation regarding nuclear safety and security at the ZNPP remains extremely unstable.
