"After his compulsory military service, he immediately signed a contract with the 3rd Operational Brigade 'Spartan'. The full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation found the warrior with the callsign 'Black' on rotation in Luhansk, where he faced his first battles. He later fought in Kharkiv and Donetsk regions," the national guardsmen wrote.
On February 14, 2023, the hero was carrying out a combat mission in the Bakhmut area. The vehicle in which Chernikov was traveling with his comrades was struck by an enemy anti-tank guided missile.
In August 2023, 24-year-old Junior Sergeant Andrei Chernikov was posthumously awarded the Order of "Courage" II class.
